Spanish Pizza with Serrania Jamon & Chorizo

Not your nonna's pizza pie.

30 minutes • Serves 2

Italy may have invented pizza, but Spaniards have made it their own. Spanish pizza has a thin crust and is never overloaded with toppings. Our version includes Mercado Famous’ Chorizo and Jamón Serranía, which gives it a distinctly special and refined flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 15-16 oz ounces uncooked pizza dough, homemade or store-bought, or 2 pre-shaped pizza crusts
  • 15 ounces tomato pizza sauce or sofrito, homemade or store-bought
  • 10 ounces artichoke hearts, drained, without oil and seasonings
  • 4 ounces of Mercado Famous Iberico chorizo
  • 4 ounces of Mercado Famous Jamon Serrania
  • 8 to 10 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 8 to 10 ounces provolone cheese, grated
  • 5 -8 fresh basil leaves

Directions:

Step 1: Heat oven to 400°F (200°C) degrees.

Step 2: If using homemade or unshaped dough, divide dough in half and flatten each into your desired pizza shape.

Step 3: Using a spoon, spread the tomato sauce or sofrito evenly over both pizzas. Sprinkle the cheese evenly over both pizzas. Then add artichoke hearts, Jamon, Chorizo, and any other toppings you desire, spreading the ingredients so they are not overlapping.

Step 4: Bake until the crust is lightly browned and cheese is bubbling, about 10-12 minutes. Remove and slice each pie into quarters. Add the basil leaves and serve warm.

Fancy it up: Spaniards often add 2-4 anchovies to each pizza, either whole or chopped into small pieces. We love the unique umami flavor it adds. Congratulations, your pizza is now fully loaded.
